Line of Events
When an ominous threat from his childhood returns to haunt him, a father desperately struggles with his deepest inner fear. Only this time the fight is not for himself; It’s for his family. In Spain it was titled “The Boogeyman (Bagman)” to avoid confusion with The Boogeyman (2023), a Spanish horror film released a year ago about the Spanish Boogeyman, also called the Bagman, a child kidnapper who used a great bag or sack to put them in, take the children out of their rooms and disappear with them. Bagman is a movie about an entity that lives in an abandoned mine in a small town and in order to make a living, he sometimes kidnaps children and puts them in a bag for some reason, never to be seen again.
Who knows, maybe he’ll be nibbling on them or something
The Boogeyman, contrary to the old folklore he’s based on, doesn’t steal from bad kids, he only steals from good kids, or “the bright ones,” as the father creepily puts it, because he’s very bad, which he really isn’t. because it’s the most pathetic horror entity that ever existed. Without the horror, this movie would be an upbeat 90s movie. It’s set in a small country town where everyone is wearing new Carhartt clothes and everyone is melodramatic, even if they’re talking casually.
Now that’s top notch service
It’s more of a soap opera than a horror movie. What was surprising was how the police are portrayed in this movie. Instead of being ultra-racist small-town hillbillies who are useless at their job unless it involves setting up black people, they’re shown to be the complete opposite, even if it’s extreme. I mean, they get a call about a potential intruder on the main property and 50 people show up and form whole forensic teams that surround the area and even have cops on the roof looking for clues…
There really isn’t much to say about this movie
It’s nice to see the police not being attacked and made to look incompetent in a movie for a change, which has been done a lot in recent years. It’s plot is very basic and it’s definitely a paint-by-numbers type of “horror” and is clearly aimed at a younger audience that suffers from very short attention spans. I only say this because there are moments in this movie that give a quick flashback to the audience explaining something that happened just 5 minutes before to make sure they follow along, and in a movie like this where it’s very easy to follow along, that’s kind of an insult to the audience. This movie is not well written and some of the dialogue and story is so horrible that it makes you cringe.
And get mad at him
The two main characters are supposed to be very much in love, but they seem very distant and have no chemistry together on screen. Our main character is meant to appear as a loving partner and father, but instead he comes across as a seriously overpowered man who works full-time but also has to take care of the child and all the housework in his wife’s absence. He’s supposedly broke after taking out huge loans and all hope was lost when his terrible woodchopping invention (which would never work anyway) failed, so now he’s even more broke, but he manages to install a complete alarm system in his house without hesitation and then pays a psychiatrist to explain to him things he already knows but for some reason can’t explain to his dear wife who is supposed to be in love with him anyway because she’s worried I’ll scold her. what he does and does…
